Circulaire PopUp Haarlem
About the project
What do you do with food you won't eat before it goes bad? Most people might toss it in the bin. Yet, there are much smarter, circular solutions to prevent food waste.

During the Circulaire PopUp in Haarlem, and on behalf of Haarlem Food Future, I’ve curated a showcase dedicated to food circularity featuring three key pillars:
A) Community Sharing: Artist Jill March has created a life-sized art installation demonstrating a neighborhood fridge – the "Buurtkoelkast." This is a fridge where residents can share surplus food, such as when they go on vacation or simply have extra ingredients they won't finish in time. We're asking Haarlemers to tell us where they'd like one as Haarlem only just introduced the first Buurt Koelkast at the Buurts Noord at the Generaal Spoorlaan 8.
B) Hands-On Workshops: I am hosting two drop-in workshops. Participants will learn how to preserve vegetables and how to turn stale bread into delicious, plant-based "minced" balls – a recipe so savory it will completely blow people's minds.
C) Sustainable Resources: We have extra copies of the Haarlem Food Future book available for free. Visitors can pick up a copy to discover local initiatives and learn how to source groceries more sustainably.
The Circulaire PopUp runs from October 20th until the end of the year at the Vleeshal on the Grote Markt.
